Michigan has a strong and stable economy, despite a slight dip in School Aid Revenue that is likely due to slower consumer spending, according to economists from the State Budget Office, House Fiscal Agency, and Senate Fiscal Agency. The economists convened May 17 for the second and last Consensus Revenue Estimating Conference (CREC) of the year, to update January’s state revenue forecast after income tax season.

Since the House and Senate passed their versions of the fiscal year 2025 state budget and legislators know how much revenue the state is projected to have, legislative conference committees can begin budget negotiations.

The public has an opportunity to comment by June 21 on the proposed maps to redraw Senate districts in and around Detroit. The Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission has drafted six maps, which include major changes to Senate districts in the tri-county Metro Detroit area. The commission must submit their final proposal to the U.S. District Court by June 27.
