President Biden won Michigan’s Democratic primary election Feb. 27 with 81% of the vote. The uncommitted vote was 13.2% with over 100,368 voters casting ballots for the Democratic party without selecting a specific Democratic candidate.

Former President Donald Trump won 68% of the Republican party vote with former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley taking 26.5% of the vote. Three percent of Republicans who voted cast their ballots as uncommitted.

Spring recess for the Michigan Legislature starts after session on March 21. The Senate will return to session on April 9 and the House on April 10. During the break, take the opportunity to meet with your state legislators in their home districts to discuss your priorities and concerns. The House and Senate appropriations subcommittees are reviewing the details of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's proposed Fiscal Year 2025 executive budget. The state budget process, which usually lasts through April, involves obtaining input and holding public hearings from the subcommittee’s respective state department, local units, other interested parties, and the public. Each of the 13 subcommittees will report their budget bill to its chamber’s Appropriations Committee, where the bills will repeat the same legislative process.
