Michigan Association of Fire Fighters

PART 1 – ELECTION

The date is set for the highly anticipated Detroit EMS ballot election to select new union representation and Michigan Association of Fire Fighters (MAFF) is ready to answer members’ questions and dispel the rumors.

Ballots will be mailed to all eligible voters homes on Friday, Aug. 19, 2016. It is crucial for EMS employees to make sure the address they have on file with the Employer is correct. Without the correct address, ballots will be delayed if mail is being forwarded, or worse, never received.

Ballots must be returned by Sept. 6, 2016. They can also be postmarked by Sept. 6, but voters will be taking a chance if they wait that long since all ballots will be counted Sept. 7, 2016 regardless of when the ballots arrive in the mail.

Take back control of your union. Make your voice heard – ensure your correct address is on file and return your ballots promptly!

A date and location for the MAFF General Meeting regarding this vote will be set soon and posted on this site. EMS Employees are encouraged to visit the MAFF website daily for updates with detailed information.

PART 2 – DUES

So what would our dues cost? MAFF doesn’t hide the numbers

The one thing MAFF members can rest assured about is open communication. While other unions are less likely to share information and some even attempt to restrict the information being put out by members, MAFF members will be informed.

One of those sticking points for some unions trying to recruit new members is the topic of dues.

MAFF has done the calculations and figured out the cost for an average Detroit EMS member:

  • EMT dues through MAFF would be $33.56 monthly based on 2,184 hours for those with a current hourly rate of $18.44.
  • Paramedics’ MAFF dues would be $40.93 per month for 2,184 hours worked at $22.49 per hour.

Open, honest communication – that’s what MAFF is all about!
